Friday 22 December 2023 Advent As we prepare for Advent we are delighted to hear readings from our pupils from the Gospels after the lighting of the Advent Wreath. The Advent wreath is green, reminding us of life in this often dreary Winter time, and the candles raise up our hopes and prayers as we look forward to the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Wednesday 20 December 2023 Careers Visit We were delighted to have Georgina Anyadike from Ask Apprenticeships talk to sixth formers about the importance of apprenticeships & how to apply for them. Monday 18 December 2023 Food Garden Club Last month, Food Garden club picked quince apples, which they look forward to making into a tasty puree, and made a heroic start on clearing the wilderness, where they discovered a pond, a bug hotel and snails, before settling down for delicious pumpkin cake, baked by Honor!

Friday 15 December 2023 GCSE Geography Year 11 Geographers ventured to Highgate and Archway to collect an array of rich data to write-up in the classroom, to support their learnings and apply new found knowledge in different contexts.

Wednesday 13 December 2023 Table Tennis Club Table Tennis Club has launched with fantastic success! Over the last two weeks, pupils have flooded in to compete in friendly games & it is great to see them trying their hand at new things, learning new skills and demonstrating sportsmanship.

Monday 11 December 2023 Meditation 7M engaged in Jesuit imaginative meditation in the style of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Pupils imagined themselves at the wedding at Cana & how they would have experienced these events. This approach develops a deeper understanding of the faith and how it would have felt.

Friday 8 December 2023 Food Garden Club In Food Garden Club, pupils focussed on mastering the art of composting, a vital skill for enriching the soil & reducing waste. They recognised the unsung heroes of this, small creatures like woodlice and a particularly dapper slug, affectionately named Tom Marley!

Wednesday 6 December 2023 Cooking Club In the Year 7 and 8 Cooking Club, pupils tackled chouquettes with zest. Amidst measuring mishaps, they nailed choux pastry, using steam power! Well done everyone!

Monday 4 December 2023 MUN Club Students in MUN club attended a training afternoon at the American School of London to learn more about UN topics including Automated Warfare & Reproductive & Maternal Health. They enjoyed a practice session in which they outlined their countries' positions on the death penalty!

Thursday 30 November 2023 EPQ Sixth form EPQ students recently visited the UCL library where they attended workshops on the key skills needed to be successful in the project. This included evaluating sources and referencing. They also had the opportunity to access the UCL archives. A brilliant day!

Friday 24 November 2023 A View From The Bridge Year 10 had a great time at The Rose Theatre in Kingston, to watch A View From The Bridge. The trip intended to boost their cultural capital and recognise those pupils who consistently work hard, challenge themselves and participate in English.

Monday 20 November 2023 Fantastic Work Well done to Eduardo in Year 7, who over the half term produced a vibrant painting of the character Bart from Simpsons tv show. He used POSCA Pens and paints and is very rightly proud of his work - as are we!

Friday 10 November 2023 Poppy Appeal We are raising money for the Royal British Legion as part of their poppy appeal. Please support by encouraging children to bring in money for poppies and to wear them proudly in support of those who died protecting our freedom. Our sixth form liturgical prefects are coming around to sell poppies, and they are also available in reception.

Tuesday 7 November 2023 Bishop Douglass Live Lounge Nadia, Aidan and Raphael in Year 7 have formed a band and treated a packed Live Lounge to live covers of 'Riptide’ and ‘Stay with Me.’ Their talent shone, with a massive audience who applauded the band. We can't wait to see what they do next!

Friday 3 November 2023 Trip to the Bank of England At the end of last term, Year 13 economists visited the Bank of England for a trip to their museum and to receive a talk titled 'An Introduction to the Bank of England and Monetary Policy', designed for A Level Economics students as monetary policy is a fundamental part of their examination specification.

Monday 30 October 2023 Proud of our Diversity 8F shared their cultural heritage mini projects with each other which was a wonder celebration of our incredible diversity here at Bishop Douglass! A lot of them learnt things about their culture that they did not know, and it generated discussions and involvement from parents too which allowed for fantastic engagement between the home and school.

Monday 23 October 2023 Global Girl Leading Conference! This week, girls from Years 9-13 attended the Global Girl Leading Conference at the Mulberry School for Girls. Pupils had the opportunity to see and hear from some inspiring speakers, beginning with the first panel on The Representation of Women in Media.

Thursday 12 October 2023 Beyond the Classroom Year 12 and 13 Politics students spent a blustery morning exploring political sites in the heart of London. They enjoyed a tour of the Palace of Westminster and a workshop about how laws are passed. They ended the Supreme Court.

Wednesday 4 October 2023 Careers Visit We were delighted to have Professor Wilfred Achille talk to our pupils in Year 10 and a smaller group in Y7-13 about working in architecture and the architecture industry. He was joined by our previous head boy Anthony who is one of his architecture students.

Friday 29 September 2023 Chess Club We are delighted to share that Bishop Douglass Chess Club has achieved national recognition for its efforts. The school has won a British Chess Educational Trust Award for 2023. This is a prestigious national award for schools that show "outstanding achievements or enthusiasm!"
